Welcome Liena Ferror

First, could you start by telling us what you are currently working on for publication and/or about your current release?

Right now I am working on the third story in The Risen series. A story about a vampire warrior and his peace-loving demon healer/drakon or dragon mate. Their love will be tested as they struggle to find a balance between literally between life and death. Nico is also a bit of a hard ass and finds it a little unbelievable that he is even mated at all. Terra can believe she’s mated but not to a warrior, even an Alliance member, warriors sworn to protect vampire and lycan kind from renegades of the same species.

Could you please tell us a little about yourself?

I’m from South Central Pennsylvania. I live with my husband and daughter. I have a son who is currently serving in the U.S. Navy.

I grew up amongst a family of readers. My mother and father instilled a love of reading and all things written into my brother and me. In my adult years, I found myself working as a data analyst and once again discovered my love of reading. I began to frequent the library more than once a week. My husband went to so far as to hang a hammock in the spare bedroom so I could have a comfortable place to read.

When I’m not writing, I’m reading or on occasion, I’ll make jewelry. Otherwise, I’m hanging with my family.

Give us a sneak peak into your current release.

Queen of the Ghost Drakon is the first in The Risen Series. The Risen are females who are born as drakon, or dragon, and either lycan, vampire, fae, or demon hybrids.

Here is the blurb for Queen of the Ghost Drakon.

A vampire’s ultimate fatal attraction is the essence of a ghost…

Innocent to the paranormal world and innocent to the world of men, Keara McCabe finds herself caught in a century's old battle between renegade vampires and lycans after witnessing the murder of her friend at the fangs of an immortal bloodsucker. On the other hand, the vampire barely sips her blood and dies. From that moment forward, she becomes wanted dead or alive. The vampires want her destroyed for the danger she is, the lycans want her as a weapon against all vampires.

Lycan Gannon Langon vows to protect her from both her enemies. But its in her arms that he finds innocence and fire, tentativeness and passion. As their desire ignites, the enemy implements a deadly plan.

Will Keara and Gannon survive to explore their new love together or will that love be destroyed?

Tell us about your writing process.  Do you outline or just start writing?

I do what I consider a soft outline. I have notebooks that I use for all my works. When an idea strikes me for an addition to a story or a story in general, I jot it down. I also do my character outlines in my notebooks as well. It is sometimes easier for me if I hit a block of sorts to jot ideas down. That usually helps me get beyond whatever is holding me up. I guess you could say I’m just a notebook person. I start with a general plan and try to stick to it but often I let the story take me where it wants.

What genre is your favorite to write?  Read?

Romance is my favorite genre to both read and write. I love stories with happily ever afters and romance has them. My favorite sub-genre would be paranormal, without a doubt. I have always been fascinated by the “creatures of the night” as well as mythological creatures, anything existing beyond human reality. It was natural that paranormal would become my favorite genre. Contemporary and suspense, romance included, would be a close second.

  Favorite authors?

I like Christine Feehan, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and JR Ward amongst the paranormal authors. Nora Roberts/JD Robb is my favorite contemporary romance author. I also like a good action adventure book and Clive Cussler is my favorite author in that genre. My bookshelves are crammed with books by too many authors to really list. All of which I would read another of their works.

When did you first start writing?

I seriously starting writing about two and a half years ago. My husband and biggest supporter, had told me I read so much that I could probably write a book. After many starts and stops I finished my first manuscript and though it wasn’t contracted by any publisher I submitted it too, it started me down the road of writing. Until his comment, I never imagined myself as a writer though I had the imagination for it. Or should I say overactive imagination? LOL. I find it amazing what a single comment can lead.

What influenced you to submit your work for publication?

Again, my husband. He never doubted my abilities as a writer and that gave me the courage to submit my work to publishers. I researched a multitude of publishers, jotting down notes about each. I submitted my first work which was rejected multiple times but I decided to write a paranormal erotic romance. When I was confident my story was the best I could make it, I submitted it to Eirelander Publishing. It’s due for release in November and the second in the series is due for release in April of 2010.

Do you belong to a critique group?  If so, how has this helped your writing, would you recommend it to others?  If not, would you consider joining, if not, why do you like to work alone?

I do not belong to a group but do have a critique partner. I prefer to work on a one on one basis. My partner is wonderful. She keeps me on the straight and narrow and isn’t afraid to tell me when I mess something up. That is what critiquing is about. I would certainly not be against joining a critique group though as long as those in the group were honest about my writing. Your partner or group should be your biggest support yet your biggest critic. Your story will be all the better.

What is the best way for readers to contact you?

Any advice you want to give aspiring writers?

First is to love what you do. You have to feel like writing is a pleasure and not a chore. Learn to balance all the loves of your life such as family along with your writing and you’ll feel fulfilled.

Second, find a good critique partner or group. People who aren’t afraid to tell you when you went off the tracks and offer you advice on how to get back on them. Honesty creates the best stories.

  2. J,

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. If you don't love what you do, in any aspect of working, then it usually makes you miserable. At least that's my experience.

    Thanks again for stopping by.

  3. Hi Liena,

Keeping the writing balanced is very important, or other areas of your life can truly suffer. This was a good interview.

    Thank you both.

  4. Charisma,

I agree. Having a family and keeping my muse from taking all my time tends to be a struggle at times when all I want to do is think about the next chapter of my story. I'm happy with the balance I've been able to maintain to this point.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Liena,

The hardest thing to do is to keep a healthy balance in your life. Sometimes writing takes more than it's share of time and at other times it's the family.

I love the idea of your story.

  6. Sandy,

    Thanks for the compliment.

Balance is very important to me. I have writing time and family time. I try not to let them cross one another except at certain times or when my muse absolutely won't leave me be. LOL!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
